The Wolf

This piece was made as a derivative of the concept of notan, a balance of light and dark. Like a traditional notan piece, it uses a dark square with pieces cut out and arranged on the surrounding white space. Unlike the traditional notan, rather than placing the cut pieces so that they mirror the original image, the fragments are rearranged to form a second subject in the piece. The inspiration of this piece is the fairytale classic, Little Red Riding Hood; however, the piece makes use of a bit of role reversal, as the cloaked figure is featured in black, while the wolf is portrayed in lighter tones.
